On 31.10.2016, we visited School No. 10 in the town of Giurgiu, Romania together with the staff of the St.St. Cyril and Methodius Primary School from the town of Senovo, Bulgaria. The visit’s aim was to share good practices and future cooperation between teachers from both schools.
The meeting was held at the initiative of the Principal of St.St. Cyril and Methodius Primary School, Senovo, with the organisational help of BRTMI Association. We were welcomed heartily and created a friendly atmosphere from the very beginning. During the meeting, which lasted for more than two hours, the school teams presented their activities, work on past projects and exchanged information about the methods and techniques they use in the training of Roma students.
The Principal of School #10 introduced the school mediator Christina Tarus, who supports the teaching staff in dealing with Roma students and communicates with parents and institutions trying to keep Roma children in school and improve students’ results. Christina shared that children feel her close and their parents trust her which provides a lot for the educational integration and motivates the children to attend classes regularly. Educators from the school in Senovo asked the school mediator lots of questions and said they look forward to employ one within a project in their school too.
After the discussion, our hosts organized a tour of the school. We visited the labs, where classes are held and enjoyed photos, paintings and posters beautifully visualizing various project activities.
